The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024 includes a list of the top ecosystems by region. The criteria for inclusion in the list are that the ecosystem either needs to be ranked in the Top 40 Global Leaders or Top 200 Emerging Ecosystems or have an Ecosystem Value greater than $200 million.

Latin America ecosystems have shown impressive growth in the GSER 2024. Insights include:
Remaining #26 globally, São Paulo is Latin America’s only ecosystem in the Top 40 Ranking.
São Paulo, Mexico City, Bogotá, Santiago-Valparaiso, and Buenos Aires are the top five ranking Latin American ecosystems. They are followed by Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Monterrey, Belo Horizonte, and Montevideo ranking as the #6-#10 ecosystems in Latin America.
São Paulo ranks #1 Latin American Ecosystem in Knowledge, measuring innovation through research and patent activity, #1 Latin American Ecosystem in Performance, measuring the size and performance of an ecosystem based on the accumulated tech startup value created from exits and funding. It is the #1 Latin American Ecosystem in Funding, measuring innovation through early-stage funding and investor’s activity, and the #1 Latin American Ecosystem in Talent & Experience, measuring long-term trends over the most significant performance factors and the ability to generate and keep talent in the ecosystem.
Buenos Aires ranks as the #1 Latin American Ecosystem in Affordable Talent, measuring the ability to hire tech talent.
Mexico City scores 9 out of 10 in Funding, measuring innovation through early-stage funding and investor’s activity.
Córdoba experienced a 287% growth in Ecosystem Value, having created $321 million in Ecosystem Value from Jul 01, 2021 to Dec 31, 2023. Ecosystem Value is a measure of economic impact, calculated as the value of exits and startup valuations.
