In 2025, the Philadelphia Department of Commerce partnered with Temple University to host the Startup World Cup competition, where startups received recognition and funding support.
As a top 10 global VC market, accelerators and founder development programs help transform research into venture-backed companies. In March 2026, the Science Center launched the Capital Readiness Program 10th cohort, with alumni collectively raising $137M — advancing healthcare innovation, creating jobs, and attracting investor interest from across the U.S. The Founder Institute opened applications for its Spring 2026 Philadelphia cohort, and in 2025, NJEDA and CoreWeave launched a $20M AI Hub Fund to help startups access capital and scale.
In 2025, Ben Franklin Technology Partners led the region with nine Life Science investments and 14 technology investments deploying $4.7M. Ben Franklin's GO Pennsylvania Fund II deployed an additional $7M across three investments. PROPEL, the National Center for Precision Medicine led by Ben Franklin, is a maturing EDA-designated Regional Tech Hub, bolstered by a $500,000 EDA grant — creating an ecosystem where Precision Medicine, Cell & Gene Therapy, and vaccine technologies are invented, manufactured, and commercialized.
Philadelphia continues to attract major capital, with five recent funding rounds exceeding $100M: Quavo Fraud & Disputes ($300M), Gopuff ($250M), Dispatch Bio ($216M), Impulse Dynamics ($158M), and Fore Biotherapeutics ($115.2M). In 2025, Eli Lilly announced a new Gateway Labs location in Philadelphia. Thermo Fisher Scientific opened an Advanced Therapies Collaboration Center at BioLabs Philadelphia.
