Christian Rangen

Founder, Strategy Tools

Over the past 20 years, we have learned how to build successful ecosystems and clusters globally, but much work remains. The next wave of ecosystem development will be around the financing or venture capital ecosystems. This is an emerging area, but will become critical to get right over the next 20 years.

Chris Rangen is a trusted strategy advisor and business school faculty. Over the past 20 years, he has advised governments, ministries, innovation agencies, economic development programs, national fund-of-funds, innovation supercluster programs, and a broad range of ecosystem initiatives globally.

Through his work, he has supported 400+ innovation clusters, advised 50+ national cluster programs, trained 1,500 cluster leaders, supported 400+ startup equity financing rounds, mentored 5,000+ startups, coached 40+ accelerators, trained 250+ emerging fund managers, and delivered masterclasses for 10,000+ participants globally on different aspects of ecosystem development.

On the Strategy Tools Platform, Chris has published 500+ visual strategy canvases and 10+ strategy simulations, used daily in ecosystem development, masterclasses, and programs around the world. His masterclasses are used across 60 countries to drive successful ecosystem implementation initiatives.

Next to his advisory work, Chris is visiting faculty at numerous global business schools, including IMD, IE, Hult Ashridge, Duke, Newton Venture Program/LBS, and BI, where he teaches venture capital, entrepreneurial finance, and strategy. Chris is also Board Chair and GP at Link Capital, a European early-stage VC.

Chris collaborates with Startup Genome by exploring how regions can scale their venture capital ecosystems, often a missing element in how regions strengthen their innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
